Hawk-headed parrot
The Hawk-headed parrot (Deroptyum accipitrinum
accipitrinum) is approximately 12 inches (31 cm) in length
and weighs about 10½ ounces (300 g). The forehead is
buff-white and the feathers on the sides of the head are brown
streaked with white. The long nape feathers are dark red,
broadly edged with blue and can be raised like an Indian headdress
when angry or alarmed. They will also sway back and forth
and make a hissing sound, hoping to scare off potential predators.
Hawk-headed parrots have a wide range of vocalizations and
can be extremely loud.

Pygmy marmoset
The Pygmy marmoset (Callithrix pygmaea)
is the smallest monkey, weighing only 2-5 ounces (56-142 g).
Their body is 4½-6 inches (11-15 cm) long with a tail
that is longer than their body (7-9 inches or 18-23 cm). They
can be found in the flooded forest, river margins, floodplains
and streamsides of several South American countries. They
eat gum or sap of trees, insects, spiders and fruit.

Matamata
The Matamata (Chelus fimbriatus) is
a terrapin that lives exclusively in brackish water. It is
the only member of its genus. Matamata turtles have a brownish-black
carapace, which is oblong in shape and usually covered with
algae. They have a light-colored neck and a yellow lower shell.
Their feet are webbed like freshwater turtles. The Matamata
can hold its breath for long periods of time as it lies in
wait. A narrow snout, along with their coloration, allows
this carnivore to ambush its prey.

Guianan toucanet
The Guianan toucanet (Selenidera culik)
has a longer bill, shorter tail and wings than many other
toucanets. It weighs approximately 5 ounces (140 g) and is 10
inches (25 cm) long. The head, throat and most underparts
of the males are black. The more colorful females are mostly
gray with a black crown and chestnut nape. Both male and female
have black with red base beaks, blue eye patches, red irises
and yellow ear patches. They can be found throughout Surinam,
Guyana and Venezuela.
