Sometimes mistakenly identified as the Green star polyp (Pachyclavularia violacea), the Palm tree polyp, or Clove polyp, is a hardy colonial invertebrate commonly kept in aquariums. The tentacles of the polyp have feathery pinnules resembling the branches of a palm tree. This coral can be found in a variety of colors including green, purple, yellow, white, brown, pink and cream. When startled, the polyps can retreat into their tubular stalks, or calyces for protection.
