While not possessing such elaborate ornamentations as its basilisk relatives, this Mexican and Central American lizard none-the-less has a distinctively-shaped skull that gives it its common name. Like the Helmeted basilisk, it stays in one spot for long periods, until it can grab insects. In captivity, it requires high humidity in order to thrive.
